Beardsley wins 100th

Montgomery coach Jeremy Beardsley recorded his 100th career victory Thursday when the fourth-ranked Cougars blanked Watchung Hills 3-0 in Warren.

Since taking over the Montgomery program in 1999, Beardsley, the 2005 Courier News Girls Soccer Coach of the Year, has not lost more than five games in a season. He also guided the Cougars to the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association Group III championship last year.

Beardsley said he was a little surprised his team was aware of the milestone.

"I was surprised that the girls knew about it, but it was nice that they did," said Beardsley, who ran his career mark to 100-32-11 with the win Thursday. "They dumped water on me -- I didn't see that coming -- and a couple of the parents and players made up a nice little plaque. That was a nice gesture. It meant a lot."
